    Routine

I find that routine produces good music. That might not be the most romantic idea as a recipe for creative expression but it’s the only way I know of making sure that the material keeps coming. Today I woke at 6am and went at it until around midday.

I like to divide my time between coming up with new material, working on completing older, unfinished material and working on production for songs that have been written but not yet brought to life. Production and song completion take a lot longer than coming up with a new idea, so as a result, I have a lot more ideas in the pipelines than I can really handle. But I think that’s a good thing. It’s a long process but over time, a very rewarding one.

I purchased an Octopre the other day. It basically means I can record a lot more things at once. Very geek.

How to produce a track – option 1 of 20 million

Filed under: Bits and Pieces — thenazatron @ 11:32 am

Pick up the guitar. Play. Sing. Record ideas. Listen back. Record more ideas. Listen back. Put sections together. Program the basic form into computer. Track goes for too long and drags on. Cull. Listen. Transcribe lyrics from brain. Lay down basic beat. Lay down scratch vocals. Add some synths. Add guitars. Add Bass. Redo Drums. Add percussion. Add more guitar parts. Find cool samples. Add Cool samples. Listen. Add proper vocals. Add a bit of salt. Tweak knobs on synth. Go back a few steps. Go forward a few steps. Time to mix ;-)

    Promoting One, Working On Another

Filed under: Bits and Pieces,General Nazatron — thenazatron @ 12:11 pm

I have been pretty flat out promoting Fork in the Road. Things are going well. There are lots of promotional ideas in the works and an overwhelming amount of possibilities. In the mean time I’m working on more tracks for another album. The reason why I am doing this so quickly after releasing the first is that… well, basically it’s lots of fun and I’ve got lots of material that I feel needs to come out. I’ve actually got quite a back log of tunes that are ready to go in to the production machine. It takes quite a while to bring each track to life so I am trying to do a bit each day.

    Writing.

Filed under: Bits and Pieces — thenazatron @ 10:01 pm

I’m writing lots of new stuff.

It’s amazing how much material you rack up when you compose a little bit each day. Then there’s the task of refining…

Made in a bedroom, mastered in new york

Filed under: Fork In The Road — thenazatron @ 1:48 pm

Fork In The Road was produced mostly from the studio in my room.

The setup included a few computers, lots of software, lots of guitars, a few good mics, Dynaudio monitors plus a whole bunch of other stuff.

My good friends John Di Sisto (on drums) and Joe Franklin (on bass) both performed on 1 track (titled Hypersomnia).

Another good friend in Malcolm Besley provided extra production when needed and performed the daunting task of mixing.

Once the tracks were finished they were sent off to New York and were mastered by Tom Coyne.
